Overview |
A rumor about Tamiya releasing the GT-One has been around
after 1998 Le Mans event, but I guess Tamiya needed a solid result as much
as Toyota wanted to market a model. The 1998 version of the GT-One
was released by Modelers and Lunatic, and the Lunatic kit was fully
detailed, so it satisfied those desperate fans who wanted to have a model
of the Toyota. Unlike a rather disappointing result of 1998, 1999
was somewhat different. After the best and second best Toyota team left
the event, the GT-One driven by three Japanese drivers kept their hope
alive. Unfortunate tire burst took their hope away, and even an ex
F1 driver Ukyo Katayama couldn't narrow the gap. Still, the team
finished second, and that was enough for the kit manufacturer to release a
model of the
car to celebrate the achievement by the three Japanese drivers.
The kit is built to a typical Tamiya standard, and it's a fully
detailed static model with a removable engine cowl, and complete engine
details.
