Problem of dealing with this kind of tail light parts is that it is almost
impossible to duplicate the turning lights (if orange) and back-up lights. The only
solution that I can think of, with my current skill, is to use a resin casting technique
and duplicate the parts in clear resin so that I can paint the parts. In this page,
I'll explain how to make a two-piece mold. |
 |
First, make a fence by using the Lego blocks and fill the bottom half
with clay. Press down the parts so that there's no gap between the parts and the
clay. |
 |
I use Shinetsu KE-17. I've been using it for 15 years and I'm very
familiar with it. Conventional RTV silicone rubber should do the same job. The
blue bottle is the catalyst. |
 |
Pour the silicone and wait until it hardens. KE-17 usually takes
6-8 hours. |
 |
Once silicon is hardened, dissemble the block and remove the clay
thoroughly. |
 |
Flip the mold over and surround it with the blocks, then apply mold
release wax so that one side of the mold doesn't stick to the other. |
 |
Mix silicone and catalyst, pour it in, and wait until it hardens. Once
the mold is made, use a knife and engrave the grooves so that it won't trap any air
bubbles. |
