Lowering
the car
As
usual for Fujimi, the fit of the kit is not so good, and the body sits too
high from the ground, giving less performance-car like appearance.
This can be corrected fairly easily by modifying the struts or relocating the suspension parts. The above picture shows
"before," and the below is "after." Notice
the gap between the front tire and the wheel arch.
|
Modifying a part
The
top of the spring/damper assembly was cut. That will cause a gap
between the bottom of this part and the lower arm. A spacer, which
was
made from a sheet plastic, was glued to the lower arm firmly. It's
recommended to use styrene glue to weld these parts together. After glue is
dried, use super glue to coat the glued area reinforce the bond. When glue is
completely dry, use a drill to open a hole for the peg. Fujimi's
after market parts are used to represent the Brembo caliper and drilled
disk.

Eliminate
the seam lines
The
first preparation work is to sand and smooth the seam lines. I used
1200 - 2000 grit Tamiya sand papers, and I hand brushed Gunze's surfacer
to check the progress. Repeat the process several times to
completely eliminate the seam. The photo shows where the seams are.

Eliminating
the seam lines (2)
The
wing also had nasty seam lines, so they were sanded with a file first. The part
was to
be glued on the rear deck, but it only had delicate marks to locate
it, and I was so sure that it would disappear after painting. I
drilled holes on both body and the stays, so that it could be positioned
in the right place. Then, a brass rod was inserted into the stay, which
helped holding the part, as well.

Opening
the slits
As
you can see, the slits were all filled, and I couldn't leave it as it was,
so I decided to open them.
|
Opening
the Slits (2)
First,
the slits were opened by scrubbing them with a sharp hobby knife. Then, it
was enlarged by inserting a narrow sand paper as shown.
|
Opening
the Slits (3)
Almost
all slits were opened. It's a minor area that nobody would notice,
but when someone comes close to your model and examine it in detail, this
kind of detail work will distinguish your model from others especially at
a contest.
