燈 火 器（日本様式のランプ）
イタリアで鍛鉄造形を学び 日本で数々のオブジェを作り、そんな折に
魯山人の行灯と出会います。
古い行灯の 荒々しいタガネの切り口 侵食した錆の感じ 手触り感が素晴らしい。
鍛鉄造形との 共通点を見い出し、 伝統的な日本の手法とイタリア技法を用い
独自の行灯を作り始めます。
江戸時代より盛んに作られた鉄行灯は、錆びさせない為 漆を表面に使う甲冑師
の技法を用いました。 私の鉄行灯は、生きた鉄の錆色と錆びさせた鉄材の
侵食感を得る為、イタリアで学んだ蜜蝋技法を施します。
真新しいピカピカの物ではなく、錆びて風化した鉄で、底光り感のある古びた行灯を
作ります。 古びた鉄行灯は、新品とは比べ物にならない程の 存在感と 時間を
もっています。 風化とは、錆であり「寂び」でもあります。
タガネで切った火袋から こぼれる光。 影絵ともいえる 鉄透かし行灯。
子供の頃見た、月夜の楽しさ 満月の美しさは 忘れられません。
鉄行灯には、日本人のもつ燈火への憧れと 日本の明かりの安らぎを感じます。

Lamplight Receptacle (Japanese style lamp)
I learned the forging Iron formative art in Italy and have made many artistic
objects in Japan. Once, I came across the lamplight receptacle of ＲＯＳＡＮＪＩＮ.
That style's lamplight receptacle is called as ＡＮＤＯＮ.
The old Andons are wonderful in the rough-cut given by a graver, the look of
being corroded by rust, and the feeling. Finding that an Andon and the
forging Iron formative art have some points in common, I began to make
original Andons with traditional techniques both Japan and Italy.
Andons began to be produced in the ＥＤＯ era. Since then, a great number of
Andons have been produced. To keep an Andon from being rusty, they gave it
a coat of lacquer, which technique armorers used. Instead of lacquer, I
gave a coat of beeswax to a Iron Andon in order to give it a rusty color of real
Iron and the impression of Iron corroded by rusty. The coat of beeswax is the
technique I had learned in Italy.
I made Andons of rusty and weathering Iron, not new glittering one, to give an
Andon an old-look and a quiet inner glow. An old-looking Andon makes
much more presence and time felt than new one. For me, weathering means
"rusty" and "lonely", what is called, "SABI" in Japanese.
Light coming out from a fire bag when cutting it with a graver, Iron frame-
worked Andon looking like a shadow picture with a light behind it. When I
was young, I had happy times seeing the beautiful full moon at night, which
memories are unforgettable for me. When seeing Iron Andons, I get the
feeling of Japanese's admiration for lamps and relief given by lamps' light.
