◇ 医師免許更新制度（英国）施行 (2005年にスタートする予定が直前になって延期となり、これまで延び延びになっていた英国の医師免許更新制度が2012年12月3日にようやくスタートした)。本制度の詳細は「治療」（南山堂）Vol 85 No 9 (2003)参照。
The "revalidation" system (periodic revalidation of physician license) started in the United Kingdom on December 3, 2012.

米国患者残酷物語 (HMO Horror Stories)
米国の医療問題活動家 (health care activist) Robert Raible 氏が1995年以降集めたHMO (health management organization; マネージドケア組織の一種)の問題点を浮き彫りにするエピソードの一部を同氏の同意を得て日本語に訳したものです（解説付き）。

英国GMC関係資料 (Information on GMC)
General Medical Council (GMC)はその役割・性格を考えると、医事委員会あるいは医療監察委員会とでも訳すことの出来る英国の行政機関であります（注：Council は一般に審議会とか協議会と訳されますが、英国ではその意味以外に、「地方自治体」、「委員会」などを始め幅広い意味で用いられています。ちなみに住民税のことを英国ではcouncil taxと呼びます）。GMCの特筆すべき点は、その存在目的をはっきり「患者の保護・医師の指導」とうたっていることです。米国患者残酷物語を発表した直後に東京医科歯科大学名誉教授岡嶋道夫先生からこのユニークな機関の活動について調べてみてはと勧められ、GMCの協力（資料提供）・雑誌「治療」編集幹事吉田聡先生の格別のご配慮もあって、ＧＭＣ関係資料の翻訳・論文発表に至った次第です。
