With the window area ready, next comes the main floor. I'm re-using the wood that I ripped up from the original floor ... was it really nearly two years ago?! But as the top surface of each piece is covered with shredded scraps of the plywood that was glued to it, I'm turning them all sideways so that a relatively clear face will be on top.
(Friend Mike warns me that joists are meant to go in a specific orientation, so this may lead to warping/distortion problems in the future, but I don't think so; these are just junk 2x2's, and they were randomly positioned in the first place ... We'll see, Mike!)
I'm nailing in crosspieces, and putting shims underneath to bring the assembly to approximately level; it's easy to get it roughly correct, as the starting point for each joist is the carefully leveled main joist of the platform in the window area. Once the whole thing is in place, I'll adjust the shims to make it exactly flat ...
