I've been working on this kit
for more than three years. Although it appears pretty close to completion, I don't
seem to have enough enthusiasm to finish it. I want this kit to be highly detailed
to make people wonder if it's really based on the old Revell kit. Followings are
some of the works I've done so far.
The wire wheels were hand laced, and the rims were
made of polyester putty, and they were shaped using a drill, since I didn't have a lathe.
The parts were shipped to Chrome-Tech USA for chrome plating. The spokes were
made by cutting brass wire, and they were painted with enamel paint, because I couldn't
find any other material at that time. I only made one wheel per day
since my concentration didn't last
long enough to make two or more.
The body was painted with Dupli-Color automobile
spray after primer was sprayed. Gloss coat wasn't used since this spray paint created
deep and wet sheen. The bumpers and windshield frame were also sent to Chrome-Tech
USA, and I'm very satisfied with their job.
The SU carburetor details were scratchbuilt using
railroad model parts and aluminum rod. Throttle mechanism was also scratchbuilt.
The rest of the components were from the kit.
Prior to paint job, the louvers were carved to open,
and the piece at the end of the hood was scratchbuilt by employing
photo-etching
technique. The hood locks were also scratchbuilt with plastic sheet and metal rod.
