I honestly think that the Jaguar E-type roadster is the best-looking
roadster in the history of automobile, and it's one of the most
favorite automobile of mine.
The subject is very popular, so there are
many model kits to choose from.
But because most of them were released long
time ago, and tooling technology wasn't as sophisticated as today,
so they require real modeling. |
 |
I chose the Revell kit, because I knew it was
not good, or extremely challenging, I should say.
But having used to the price fitting and
accurate detail of Tamiya kits, I thought I needed to test my
modeling skills with this kit. |

Here is the rear quarter view with the bonnet
open.

The soft-top cover was a modified parts from the Aurora kit, and it
was painted with Scale Motorsport interior black. This spray paint
adds texture, and created a good contrast with the polished body.

The biggest highlight of this model is this hand-laced wire wheel.
The outer and inner spokes cross each other, creating much better
appearance than the photo-etched wheel would do. There are
seventy-two spokes on each wheel. |
 |
The back of the axel carrier was detailed with a number of extra
parts from aftermarket bolt-heads to pieces of styrene sheet. Many
of the hex-shaped heads are from the Wave hex rivet set.
Brake wires are also made from a small brass
wire.

 |
The radiator is taken from the Aurora kit, and the reservoir tank is
sitting on a scratchbuilt bracket part. The shocks are made by
combining two different diameters of brass rod, and they improved
the appearance a lot. |
 |
The carburetors weere scratchbuilt, but the rest of the engine parts
are from the kit.

 |
I don't even remember how many hours I spent
for this model, but I think all of my effort paid off. |
