![]() Engine Assembly of R/M Kit |
This is the engine/drive train/differential assembly of the Revell/Monogram kit. It was glued to the lower suspension part, then the whole assembly was glued go to the bottom of the chassis. Although the instruction suggests to paint the steering unit aluminum, my source shows that it's not just a single piece of silver part, but rather it's a combination of semi-gloss black, flat black and aluminum, so I painted it accordingly. |
![]() Brake Disk of /M Kit |
Another neat feature of the Revell/Monogram kit is the Corvette letters on the brake calipers, which is clearly visible once the model is complete. I thinned black paint and let it flow between the letters first, then I painted the rest of the caliper in semi-gloss black. Tamiya's metallic gray was used to paint the disks.. |
![]() Applying Meta-Look |
The back side of the window was a little difficult to paint by hand, so I used Modeler's Meta-Look to mask the part. The reason why I don't use BareMetal foil for masking is that if you peel the foil off, BareMetal tends to leave the adhesive, and cleaning isn't so easy. On the other hand, Modeler's Meta-Look peels off cleanly, and yet it adheres strongly, when used for decorating the exterior. |
![]() The Roof of AMT Kit before Polishing |
This is the roof of the AMT/ERTL kit after smoothing by using the Micro-Mesh polishing kit. I started with 3200 grid, then used all the way up to 12000. This photo was taken when I finished sanding with 6000 grid. |
![]() After Polishing |
After the roof was smoothed, I used Tamiya Polishing Compound and a very
fine cloth, used to clean the glasses, to polish the surface. The fluorescent light
appears sharply on the surface. By using the same technique, you can eliminate most of the scratches on clear parts. |
![]() The hood of the AMT/ERTL kit |
Finishing work of the body is essentially the same as the process described above. This photo was taken when the initial clear overcoat was done on the AMT/ERTL kit. Gloss coat was sprayed six times before the first smoothing was done. |
Final assembly of the Revell/Monogram kit is available. See Page 4. | |
