Here's a comparison between AMT/ERTL C5 and Revell/Monogram C5. Both kits represent three dimensional details of the actual car nicely. The gauges of the Revell/Monogram kit is represented by a decal, while AMT's old fashioned manner of tooling the gauges simply doesn't look as good as its counterpart.  I'm curious when it's going to elevate the standard to the level of other manufacturers.

Another advantage of Revell/Monogram is that the dashboard is a two piece assembly, which allows to have an opening just above the passenger side airbag. Also, the door handles are separate, adding nice details to the inner door panels. However, the passenger side airbag cover of the Revell/Monogram kit has raised Corvette lettering, which I believe it's wrong. The lettering on the airbag cover of the AMT/ERTL kit has engraved lettering.

Another noticeable flow of the AMT/ERTL kit is that the front and rear treads are too wide, which makes it look like a HotWheel. I've made several kits from this manufacturer, and I've never seen any kit, of which wheels sit in the right position. Photo is a little dark, but you can see that both wheels are sticking out of the fender.

In order to correct this problem, the gap between the inner wheel and the spindle was eliminated. Then the brake disk part was shortened so that it wouldn't sway right and left. The axis of the spindle was shortened to cope with this modification.

Priming works were done while minor corrections were made.
After Gunze Sangyo Surfacer dried thoroughly, the first coat of Dupli-Color was applied. Some primers are so thick that they blur the details, but Gunze's Surfacer is designed specifically for the plastic model kits, so it provides smooth and thin pre-coat.

Both kits are painted with Dupli-Color automobile spray. This is my favorite, since it dries fast, adheres strongly and sprays evenly. This paint, however, does craze the plastic, so proper priming is mandatory.

Next time will be about clear over coating and polishing by using a commercially available polishing kit.
