First, I draw a sketch of the car as usual, and
made a balsa wood master for vacuum forming. Then, I modified the kit parts,
especially the monocock, to match the drawing. |
The monocock was narrowed, then modified, using plastic
sheets, to make it look like that of the MP4/6. Polyester and epoxy putty were used
when needed. The upper and lower suspension arms are from the kit, and they are
relocated. The suspension rods were scratchbuilt from plastic sheet. The
damper unit are basically combination of various sizes of plastic and aluminum rods.
|
 The radiators were scratchbuilt
from a plastic sheet, and the exhaust headers were made by bending a heated plastic rod.
At that point, the perfect manual was published, and I had enough reference photos
to detail the engine. The cam covers were plastic sheet, so were the ignition
modules. The oil coolers were also scratchbuilt. |

The intake funnels were from the base kit, and two were scratchbuilt. The Honda
logos were made by employing the foil casting method, the same technique I used to
duplicate the Boxster logo.
The oil reservoir tank(?) was made of aluminum pipe, and epoxy putty. Various pipes
and wires were used to detail the engine. |
The cowl was vacuum formed from the wood master, and an
enlarged induction pod from the kit was attached to the body. The rear part of the
induction pod was taken from Tamiya's F189 kit. The front and rear wings were from
the kit, but the winglets were made by photo-etching. |
When those currently finished pieces are put together the
model looks like this. |
