Displaying Japanese under any language version of Windows 95, 98 or Me
If you just want to display Japanese (and not enter text), the simplest
way is to connect to a Japanese web site with Internet Explorer. Your
browser will then prompt you to download a Japanese font (MS Gothic). You can
try for example the Japanese pages of Institut
Franco-Japonais de Tokyo.
Please note that this font weighs 2.7 MB.
If you also want to be able to type Japanese characters,
you will have to download the East
Asian Input Methods and Language Packs. To do so, visit the Microsoft
Global IME page. The abbreviation "IME" refers to "Input
Method Editor", which is the term Microsoft uses for that program which
enables East Asian text to be typed from a standard keyboard.
Do not install these language packs if you are running Windows 2000, NT 4 or XP. In that case follow one of the following links.
