Displaying Japanese under any language version of Windows 2000
If you are using Windows 2000, Japanese Input Methods and Fonts are included
on the Windows 2000 Professional CD-ROM, and are easily installed.
If you do not have the installation CD, use this
other method.
To install the necessary fonts, click Start, then Settings to open the Control Panel.
Select Regional Options.
If you find "Regional settings" instead of "regional options", your PC does not run Windows 2000 but Windows 95/98/Me.
Click the General tab if necessary.
At the bottom of the box, under the section marked Language settings for the system, select Japanese
and any language you wish to use by marking the appropriate checkboxes.
After clicking OK or Apply, you may be prompted to insert your original Windows
2000 CD-ROM and you may be prompted to reboot your system after the files
have been installed. After installation is complete, you will be able to browse
text in any of the languages you checked. If you also wish to enter text in
a foreign language, again open the Control Panel and select Regional Options.
Select the Input Locales tab. By clicking the Add... button, you may install
additional input locales as desired.
If you do not have the installation CD-Rom
If you do not have the installation CD-Rom and
just want to display Japanese in a web browser
and in the applet on this site (but
not enter text), the simplest way is to connect to a Japanese web site with
Internet Explorer. You browser will then prompt you to download a Japanese
font (MS Gothic). You can try for example the Japanese pages of Institut
Franco-Japonais de Tokyo.
Other versions:
