A gentleman had some business to sit
up till very late one night.
ある紳士が、どうしても遅くまで仕事をしなければならない夜がありました。
So he called his servant and said to
him.
そこで、彼は召使いを呼んでこう言いました。
"I'll be late tonight. So wake me at six tomorrow morning."
「今夜は遅くまですることがあるんだ、少ししか眠る時間がないだろうから、明日の朝起きられるか心配だ。６時に必ず起こしてくれ」
He thought he had slept only a little while, when the servant aroused
him.
しごとを片付けて、やっと寝たところなのに、召使いが、彼のところへとんできました。「旦那様！」
" Is it six o'clock?" asked the gentleman, rubbing his
eyes.
眠たい目をこすりながら彼は召使いに聞きました。「もう６時かい？」
No, it is only four o'clock, sir," replied the servant.
「いいえ、旦那様、今は４時でございます」、、召使いはそう答えました。
But
I told you to wake me at six ", said the master.
「６時に起こしてくれと言っただろ！」
Why did you wake me so
soon? "
「どうしてこんなに早く起こすんだい！」彼は不機嫌そうに言いました。
I know it, sir, " said the servant.
「分かっておりますとも、旦那様」 召使いは言いました。
I only came to tell you have still two hours to sleep".
「私は、旦那様に、あと２時間もお眠りいただけると、お知らせしたかっただけなのです」
