[Q] lpr でリモート印刷ができない。

[A] print server の /etc/hosts.lpd に、クライアントPCをFQDNで記述する。

[Q] kernel 2.0.35 + pcmcia-cs-3.0.5 + mPS110_cs で、MACNICA mPS110 互換の pcmcia-SCSI card を使用することができるか。
　また、使用するためにはどのような操作が必要か。

[A] 使用可能。
動作確認環境： Slackware 3.4 kernel 2.0.35

  4. pcmcia-cs-3.0.5/etc/config の編集 (README 参照)
    ....Makefile & config 差分
  5. pcmcia-cs-3.0.5/make config ; make all ; make install
  6. $ su
    # /etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia restart

[Q] gcc: samba 等のコンパイルで、コンパイルエラーが出て実行ファイルを作成できない。

[A] Slackware 3.4 に添付されている gcc-2.7.2.3 は、Fortran 関係の修正が入っているらしく、その部分が悪戯しているようだ。
　CD か network からソースを取得し、コンパイルすることで普通に使用できる gcc ができる(問題含みの gcc でコンパイル可能)。

[Q] samba-1.9.18p10 のコンパイル／イントールはできたが、MS-Windows98/4.10.1998 からのログインができない。
　MS-Windows95/4.00.950a では問題ない。

[A] Windows 98 では、セキュリティ上の理由により、プレーン テキストのパスワードを送信することはできないそうなので、そのままではログインできない。
　samba を、WinNT SP3 の暗号化パスワードに対応するように構築するか(参照：ENCRYPTION.txt)、MS-Windows のレジストリを変更し、平文パスワードを話すように手を入れる必要がある。

　MS-Windows クライアントが多数ある場合は、samba で対応したほうが良いかもしれないが、数台の場合は MS-Windows に手を入れたほうが簡単に処理できるようである。

　レジストリ修正の手順は、docs/WinNT.txt 又は docs/Win95.txt を参照のこと。
　なお、Windows98 の場合は、CD-ROM の \tools\mtsutil\mtsutil.txt を参照し、該当する .inf ファイルをインストールすることで、暗号／平文の切り替えが可能。(要再起動)

注：Windows にログインしているユーザ名と、samba の(Linuxの)ユーザ名をあわせておかないと、「パスワードが違う!!」とはねられてしまう。これに気付かずはまった....

[Q] samba で、smbclient を実行すると、

startlmhosts: Can't open lmhosts file /usr/local/samba/lib/lmhosts. Error was No such file or directory
と表示される。
　特におかしな動作はしていないようだが、気になる。

[A] name resolve order に値を設定することで解消する。

　"man smb.conf" より....
   name resolve order (G)
       This  option  is  used by the programs smbd, nmbd and smb-
       client to determine what naming services and in what order
       to  resolve  host  names  to IP addresses.  This option is
       most useful in smbclient. The option takes a  space  sepa-
       rated  string  of different name resolution options. These
       are "lmhosts", "host",  "wins"  and  "bcast".  They  cause
       names to be resolved as follows :

       lmhosts  : Lookup an IP address in the Samba lmhosts file.
       host    : Do a standard host name to  IP  address  resolu-
       tion, using the
                 system  /etc/hosts,  NIS,  or  DNS lookups. This
       method of name
                 resolution is  operating  system  depended  (for
       instance on Solaris
                 this may be controlled by the /etc/nsswitch.conf
       file).  wins    : Query a name with the IP address  listed
       in the "wins server ="
                 parameter.  If no WINS server has been specified
       this method will
                 be ignored.  bcast   : Do a broadcast on each of
       the known local interfaces listed in
                 the  "interfaces =" parameter. This is the least
       reliable of the
                 name resolution methods as  it  depends  on  the
       target host being
                 on a locally connected subnet.

       The  default order is lmhosts, host, wins, bcast and these
       name resolution methods will be attempted in this order.

       This option was first introduced in Samba 1.9.18p4.

       Default:
               name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast

               name resolve order = lmhosts bcast host

       This will cause the local  lmhosts  file  to  be  examined
       first, followed by a broadcast attempt, followed by a nor-
       mal system hostname lookup.

[Q] samba で Win95/98 のプリンタサーバを構築したいが、MS-Windows からのデータを書き込めず、印刷ができない。

[A] スプールディレクトリのパーミッションの問題のようだ。
　chmod 777 とし、オーナー、グループ以外のユーザにもデータ書き込みができるようにする。
　また、ディレクトリに sticky ビットを設定( chmod 1nnn )することで、該当ディレクトリ下のファイルは、オーナー又はスーパーユーザのみが削除できるようになる。

[Q] apache で、DocumentRoot にあるファイルは見ることができるが、ホームディレクトリのファイルを見ようとすると

You don't have permission to access /~foo/ on this server.
となり見ることができない。

[A] ホームディレクトリにあるファイルへのアクセスができない状態になっているため。
　/home/foo 及び ~/public_html 以下のディレクトリに対し、chmod o+x することで、問題なくアクセスできるようである。
