ROLAND HANNA〜 Last Japan

Hanna came to Japan on October 2, 2002. Our 7th duo tour had begun with a
concert in Urawa-city, however, at the 4th hall located in Nakano Ward,
Tokyo, Hanna was hospitalized after apologizing on the stage for his poor
health condition which prevented him to play. He had made his condition
stable for 2 weeks in Japan, and he went back to New York on October 17. As
soon as he arrived in NY, he was taken to a hospital. He left the hospital
on October 28, and then he had been resting at home.

When I gave him a ring on November 5, he said, "Hello, Eiji san" and he was
talking very cheerfully about the tour, a recording, and so on. I never
imagined he would pass away so soon.

His condition seemed not to be very good even just before he came to Japan,
but I heard he was saying that he wanted to see me and perform with me.
His wife, Ramona, said to me ....."Roland must
have been to Japan to see you, Eiji !"

The various memories with Hanna over 12 years are flashing back in my head again and again.

He shed tears as listening to the "Mother's Song" by my bass solo.....
He played the "Stranger in Paradise" just for me....
During a tour, I became so angry that I said to him, "I'm heading to a hall
alone, so please come there for yourself.", and I left him at a hotel.....

Such memories as well as if they happened yesterday.....

He was the important, really precious friend who had always
cared about me like a father.
I shall never forget him in my heart......I LOVE ROLAND HANNA.
