Museum City Fukuoka '98 is a contemporary art exhibition held one month in downtown area of Fukuoka city by "Museum City Project", a non-profit organization with cooperation of citizens, city government, corporations as well as artists. It aims to give viewers / residents opportunities to rediscover the unknown charm of the city and possibility of art through unexpected encounters with art work artfully installed in common urban environments. This exhibition is a development of the series named "Museum City Tenjin" held every two years since 1990, but it expands its area to cover Hakata area as well as Tenjin, and explores new strategy to communicate with viewers and residents, through "Art Picnic", "Artist in Residence", and "Info- Cafe".
