One Printmaker's Slow Climb up a Long Ladder

In the other sections of this website there are many images of prints that I have made ... but if I were to show you only those prints, it would be 'cheating' a bit, I think. The prints in the Hyakunin Isshu series and the Surimono Albums were all made by the 'professional' printmaker David - in other words, made since I started offering my work to collectors. But how did this guy arrive at that stage? Did it take a year, or a decade? What about the 'beginner' David?

Where I've Been ...

This section attempts to show something of that journey, right from the rudimentary first attempts. If it's polished work you want to see, then turn back now, but if you're curious about the history behind the prints I am making, then come in and take a peek ...

Where I'm Going ...

There is of course more to the story ... although I feel that the woodblock prints I am currently making are quite good, do I consider them perfect? The answer is obviously 'no', but unlike a creative original artist, who cannot see clearly what he will be creating 'tomorrow', it is fairly easy for a craftsman like me to see where he is going.
