The bag of plaster seems like more than enough, so here we go ...

I wasn't quite sure what should be mixed with this plaster, but it came in two bags - one of the plaster itself, and one of some finely chopped strands that (I'm told) are made from seaweed. It seems to make a nice 'gritty' mix that should adhere well I think.

I don't have a lot of experience with this stuff, but I think I know the drill; lightly spray the wood surface with water to make sure that it doesn't suck the moisture from the plaster too quickly, and then trowel the stuff over the slightly damp surface.

At first, most of it seemed to end up on my feet, but I got the hang of it after a few minutes, and it seems to be going on well. There is no way I'm going to be able to get a smooth surface of course, so I'm leaving plenty of light trowel marks and 'texture'.

So here we are ... after the cleanup. Here's a shot looking into the alcove from under the overhanging beam (with its still-to-be-insulated frame):

Then if I kill the flash, we can see the texture a bit better:

And that's going to be it for this construction for a while. Two days from now I'm heading over to Canada for a visit with my daughter and the new grandson, and when I get back, there'll be no time for fooling with building - it'll be time for some serious work on the scroll project ...
