Moving slowly along ... With the base section firmly in place, next comes the upper portions. Here's a photo (taken from next door's balcony) with the first part up in place.

It's just a simple piece of framing, but getting it all 'square' was a very difficult job. The base section has a level top, but the concrete roof isn't so accurate, and with my wall cutting in at this kind of angle, it took a lot of careful measuring to get things right.

It's not very visible in this photo, but there is a strip of aluminum 'flashing' up at the top, beveled to the outside. This will be caulked later, to form a good solid seal against any rain that might be driven up there in a storm.

... you can see the opening where the casement window will go. I've tried to maximize window sizes when designing this wall, to let as much light into the room as possible.
