One advantage of working by yourself on a project like this is that you can change your mind without driving other workers crazy! After looking at the south wall yesterday, I realized that the ventilation space behind the wall didn't need to be quite so deep ... all the way up. So this afternoon, instead of moving on and building the next section, I took this one down and rebuilt it with a 'setback' on the upper portion.

This setback should make an interesting feature of the finished room, I think. Perhaps I might even talk myself into displaying some prints in that space ...

The frame still doesn't touch the concrete; there is a gap of a few centimeters.

It's interesting to note that this studio space isn't immune from one of the fundamental laws of physics - the one that says that any new horizontal surface that comes into being inevitably attracts its first coffee cup within an hour ...

Here's how the frames are being tied to the concrete:

I drilled the wall and inserted some of those expanding thingys, and then screwed the frame tightly into place using these angle brackets. This particular section of wall is tied this way in six places. Combine that with the two anchor bolts holding the sill, and this thing is rock solid! (Although now that I think of it - this connection would be even stronger if those two screws in the concrete were in the upper two holes ...)
