The body are made of balsa wood. Basically I make plastic
templates our of the drawings, and use it to form the shape of the body. |
The body is still incomplete. I have obtained more
reference photos, and it turned out that the dimension is quite inaccurate, so these parts
are currently under major modification.
|
I usually divide the body in sections to make the vacuum forming
easy. It also helps conform the feature well, but the body pieces will not have the
same strength of a one-piece body made of a solid piece of wood. |
When I scratchbuild wheels for deferent front and rear sizes, I
usually make either one of them, make a mold with RTV rubber. Modify it to represent
the other, and make another mold out of it. This way, I can have the identical wheel
pattern for both front and rear. The same method was used to scratchbuild the front
and rear of the Diablo SE30 and Ruf CTR wheels.
