My home-cooked chestnuts, / one soft bite steals a held breath, / the sweet is more than I.
栗を煮る一つ咽たる甘さかなa crescent moon / a cold light on my tired eyes / after all-night work
夜明かしの血眼に染む三日の月first chill of autumn / at midnight, a child's cough / breaks the silence
新涼や夜半に咳きこむ子供かなthe wind, a sweet guide / leads me to the fragrant olive / a secret of fall
隠れても風が教える金木犀you stay in the room / I leave you to the stillness / the neighbor of winter
病室に君取り残す冬隣on white plaster still / a lone fly kneads its silent plea / as the last warmth dims
白壁に何を拝みし残る蠅spider silk is spun / fragile moon, host not seen / autumn stillness pervades
蜘蛛の巣や主の代わりの三日の月child asleep on back / autumn's breath, a double weight / peaceful evening shared
寝た子供秋のけはいとおぶりけりheavy rice heads bow / golden harvest whispers time / gentle breeze kisses
愛しげな風が愛でゆく稲穂かなautumn’s sky so vast / children’s hunger, insatiable / never saying, “Enough”
天高し呆れる食い気の童かなlost in the distance / dusk falls, shadows gather 'round / autumn’s loneliness
影だけが連れ添うものよ秋の暮a cat on the wall / watching evening’s hues unfold / mackerel sky drifts
塀の猫見上げ夕べの鰯雲crickets chirp their hearts / darkness deepens in their chorus / stillness fills the night
鳴く程に闇は濃くなるちろろかなall is bathed in light / no shadow, harvest moon's kiss / blesses this calm night
