· Joe plays unaccompanied solo on 8
· I asked Jordi Pujol, the producer, what is the source of this album. Jordi kindly made me know that he bought many tapes recorded at the Lighthouse from its owner, Howard Rumsey in the early 1990's.
I also asked Jim Hughart if he remember something about this recording. Jim remembered this quintet and did a few gig but didn't remember recording with it. According to Jim, "Howard had some recording equipment in his office upstairs at The Lighthouse that was connected to the microphones on stage. We know that he recorded sometimes but we never knew when he was recording. This might be one of those "secret" recordings."
Anyway this album reveal Joe Pass's the very first unaccompanied solo performance for the first time in 55 years!
"Sometime Ago", no, it's "Long Time Ago!" (Tabo/Feb. 12, 2019)
· According to Jordi Pujol, this is the only set of Joe Pass recording on the Lighthouse recordings. And Jim Hughart mentioned, "I worked a lot of gigs that were just Joe and me. On those duo gigs he played more unaccompanied than he did on trio or quartet gigs. I usually played electric bass on the duo gigs - he liked the "blend"."
Thanks for the GREAT info, Jordi & Jim !!(Tabo/Mar.11, 2019)
