In Kantoh region, Nakagawa is well known as a canoe touring course. There are so many young canoe freaks on the stream in recent weekends.
Today, I would like to introduce Sakuragawa Canoe Cruise for senior canoeists. Sakuragawa river flows into Lake Kasumigaura, the 2nd largest lake in Japan. The river is famous for black bass fishing.
Fortunately, I have never seen other canoeist than us in the muddy wild river even in the top season.
The canoe cruise starts at the Sakurabashi bridge, east of Kyushoku-center. You can see turtles' jumping, big carp's battle, many kinds of birds, etc.
First, you will see a bamboo wall. You have to make a quick right turn. If you miss, you'll be in the muddy water. After that, there are 2 small waterfalls (about 50 cm height). Be careful of steel structure. 7 km padling, you will reach the bridge of Root 6 by-pass. You will finish the cruise there.
On the first saturday of October, the fireworks competition is held. You can enjoy fireworks waching from canoe. Please refer the pirates page (in Japanese).

Start from Sakurabashi-bridge.
