Phalaenopsis is an orchid family. It takes four years to produce flowers after seeding. We will show how it grows for the four  years.

A procedure for cultivation of phalaenopsis(Our way)

１．Crossing

Put pollinium on the back of the colum. When it works,a pod grows. Age the pod for threemonths

２．Seeding　(3 months after crossing)

Put seeds from the pod on a hyponex substrate containing apple juice.

３．First Subculture(3 months after seeding)

Make the sobculture of the plant for the first time.

４．Second Subculture(9 months after the first subculture)

Mack the subculture of the plant for the second time. Use the same sobstrate as the first subculture.

５．Planting out of the flask(9 months after the second subculture)

Put the nursery plant out of the flask.After winding sphagnum moss around the plants,plant the 5-10 nursery plants together on a pan(φ12cm).

６．First Replanting(1 year after planting out of the flask)

Replant each nursery plant into a pot(φ7.5cm).

７．Seocnd Replanting and flowering(1 year after the first replanting)

Replant the plant into a bigger pot(φ12cm).The plant will come into bloom early in spring when the temperature rises.

The above is the usual culture procedure.However,in our schoolwe have discovered a way to shorten the period from crossing to subculture(2months instead of 2 years).By using phytohormone,we grow high buds on the flower stalk and plant them.

The Procedure for the formation of high buds of phalaenopsis

１．Adjustement of flower stalk

Cut the flower stalk 2cm long up and down from the bud.

２．The first cultivation

Plant the flower stalk into MSsubstrate added benzyl adenine andnaphthaleeaecetic acid.Benzyladenineand naphthaleeacetic acid isconcentrated to the level indicated inthe left figure.

３．The second cultivation(1 month after the first cultivation)

Plant the flower stalk for the secondtime into MS substrate addedbenzyladenine and naphthaleeaceticacid.Benzyladenine andnaphthaleeacetic acid is concentratedto the level indicated in the left figure.

４．Planting out of the flask(1 month after the second cultivation)

Put the nursery plant out of the flaskand replant into a pot(φ7.5cm)filledwith sphagnum moss.The laterprocess is the same as the usualculture procedure.
