Nasunogahara Harmony Hall
            more

This complex consists of a large hall for musical performance, a small hall for the performance of plays, and art galleries for temporary exhibition of paintings and sculpture, and is intended to bring together every branch of the arts in a harmonious environment. It is the first cultural facility in Japan to be constructed on a collaborative basis by two local authorities, (the City of Otawara and the Town of Nishinasuno, both in Tochigi Prefecture) The design is the winning entry in a design competition held in 1991.The entire site has been laid out as a park, where people can gather and relax at any time, thus giving the establishment a lively atmosphere even where the building are closed. The principal axis is defined by a waterside promenade, cutting diagonally across the site. The promenade constitutes the focal element around which a hill, a watercourse, trees, galleries and halls are disposed, creating a dramatic ensemble made up of a range of scenes for visitors to encounter.
