THE CITY CHARTER OF HIGASHIMATSUYAMA
Higasihmatsyyama has a long history and a
venerable tradition and is
embraced by beautiful nature. We proud of being the citizens of
this
city and also take the responsibility for being the citizens of
this city.
Therefore, We institute the City Charter to build up peaceful,
comfortable and cultural city, Higashimatsuyama.

東松山市
埼玉県中央部にある田園都市。
近年、人口が急増し、都市化がすすむ。
市域は外秩父山地につらなる丘陵地・台地上に広がる。
1954年(昭和29)市制施行。面積は65.29km2。
人口は9万3347人(1995年国勢調査速報)。
産業
県央の中心地のひとつで、第2次世界大戦後は自動車部品
・電気などの工場が進出している。
近年は宅地化がすすんでおり、
旧市街の南側、岩殿・高坂丘陵の開発で大規模住宅団地
が造成され、大東文化大学が立地する。
東武東上線、関越自動車道、国道254号・407号が通じる。
観光
毎年11月に、国内外のハイカーたちがつどう歩く祭典
「日本スリーデーマーチ
」が開催され、多くの人々が比企
丘陵周辺の豊かな自然とのふれあいをたのしむ。
南部の丘陵地には、こども動物自然公園や県立平和資料館
などの文化施設が多い。
西部には、「原爆の図」で有名な丸木位里・俊夫妻の作品
を展示する丸木美術館があり、戦争の悲惨さを伝えている。
独特のみそだれで食べる焼鳥の町としても知られており、
多くの店がならんでいる。
歴史
歴史は古く、前方後円墳としては県内第2の大きさをほこる
将軍塚古墳や若宮八幡古墳など、古墳が多数みられる。
市街には中世に創建されたと伝えられる箭弓(やきゅう)稲荷神社
があり（西部ライオンズも新春にはお参りするとか。この隣は紫雲閣とい
う結婚式場。なにかにつけて飲み会・会合の場所になる）、岩殿丘陵の
物見山北側には、坂東(ばんどう)三十三所の第10番札所岩殿観音がある。
江戸時代には日光裏街道の宿駅としてさかえ、六斎市もたっていた。
'3 Day March':
3 day march is very famous here in Higashimatsuyama.
Every year we invite many guests not only all over Japan but the world. Especially we have contracted with Holland- Naimehein(??I don't know how you spell..tell me!) as the sister city. So many tourist gather in November, and join walking.
Every year there are several courses; 10km,20km,30km,and 50km. Students in Higashimatsuyama have to join one of them. Last year the most popular course is the 10km and the 20km. The reason why 10km and 20km was popular, you know ? Students joined either of them. And many kinds of volunteers join it ,too. Some events and concerts are seen there. It's the walking festival. Sometimes JTE(Japanese teacher of English)s are forced to join the festival as the interpreter. But the situation of the communication language is German, and French. JTE cannot speak either of them.
