To cultivate variegated plants is popular in Japan from Rohdea japonica (Omoto) to Cymbidium for a long time. Similarly regarding Cacti and Succulents, many kinds of variegated plant are breeded and valued highly. As for Cacti, they are seen in almost kinds of genera. Value judgement is really Japanism and it is in the world of "Wabi, Sabi".
Valuable are, a contrast of colors is clear, variegated pattern is small and spread like a stream all over. It is known that variegated plants are crossbreeded between related sorts, but it seems that some of them are from seeds of variegated plants. We often see selected variegated plant over $100. Maniac people grow thousands or millions of seedling to breed only one or two beautiful plants.
