After helping Inoki's election for senate, Hase hoped to have a match with Inoki. He defeated Tiger Jeet Singh, who also wanted to have a match against Inoki, in the Ganryujima Island. Inoki's first great match in a long time. Inoki reintroduced the choke sleeper hold.

A match right before the Final Count Down series began. Although Inoki lost, he still showed his dreadfulness especially when he put Tenryu down with a choke sleeper hold.

At the post match party, Inoki talked with Flair. Flair's son asked Flair not to wrestle Inoki because he didn't want his dad to get killed. During this conversation, Inoki had a respect to Flair, whom he always disliked in the past. This would lead to the great match in Pyong-yang, Norh Korea.

This card, "Inoki Festival", was an opening event for the "Samurai" satellite channel, which is exclusive for martial arts programs. Inoki wasn't scheduled to wrestle but accept the challenge by the Priate for a clean victory.

On the day of the match, it was announced that each fighter is limited for his finisher move. Inoki's was abdominal strech, while Willie was restricted to win with a straight punch only. Unlike their old mixed martial arts match, it was more like an alumni reunion, and Inoki won easily.

The long waited teacher-student match against Satoru Sayama (original Tiger Mask) seemed to be too short, but it was satisfactory for this match actually took place. Finisher was perfect.

1998/04/04 - Tokyo Dome - Retirement Match
Antonio Inoki (4'09" ground abdominal stretch) Don Frye

It was not Ogawa, but it was Frye who won the tournament to determine the final opponent of Inoki. Inoki dominated in a mat wrestling and forced Frye onto a choke sleeper. Then, Inoki gave some punches on a mount position, which was followed by a kick into face, enzuigiri, and straight punches. Frye lost the will to continue, and Inoki put him in an abdominal stretch to the gound to finish his final match.
