01/26Announces the foundation of New Japan Pro-Wrestling at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo.
03/06The opening card of New Japan. In the main event, Inoki wrestles Karl Gotch and loses by pinfall with a reversed suplex.
10/04Defeats Karl Gotch by COR at Kuramae Kokugikan (old Sumo Hall in Tokyo) to win the Real World Championship belt(Inoki loses in rematch, however). The match is aired on the Tokyo 12 Channel (today's TV Tokyo) and gets attention from the fans.

1973
03/30As Seiji Sakaguchi joins New Japan, the NET (today's TV Asahi) starts airing "World Pro-Wrestling" (New Japan cards) at 8 o'clock in Friday night.
10/05Tiger Jeet Singh attacks Inoki on the street in front of Isetan Department Store in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
12/10Defeats Johnny Powers at Tokyo Gym to win the NWF World Heavyweight Title, which becomes New Japan's main title until IWGP.

1974
03/19Defends NWF title against Strong Kobayashi, former top star of the I.W.E.. This bout, the first match between two Japanese big names since Rikidozan vs. Masahiko Kimura, is known as "the Ganryujima Fight of Showa".
06/26In a match against Tiger Jeet Singh, Inoki breaks Singh's arm with arm breaker
08/16Inoki & Seiji Sakaguchi defeat Kurt Von Hess & Karl Von Schotz in Los Angeles to win the NWA North American Tag Team Title.
12/15Wrestles in his "second home" Brazil for the first time against Andre the Giant.

1975
12/11Wrestles Billy Robinson at Kuramae Kokugikan in one of the greatest matches in the history.

1976
02/06Defeats Willem Ruska, the judo gold medalist of the Olympic Games in Munich,by knockout after three consecutive back suplexes. This is the first of the seiries of mixed matches against the fighters of other sports.
06/26The famous match against Muhammad Ali, the world heavyweight boxing champion,ends as time limit draw.
12/12Defeats a Pakistanian hero Akrum Pelwan by breaking his arm. Later, Akrum commits suicide because of the loss.

1977
01/07The first match against Stan Hansen.
08/02In one of the best fights in the seiries of mixed matches, Inoki defeats The Monsterman,the world super heavyweight pro-karate champion, at Nippon Budokan.

1978
05/30Wins the 1st Annual Madison Square Garden League, defeating Andre the Giant in the final.
12/16Wins the Pre Japanese Championship, defeating Hiro Matsuda in the final.

1979
01/25Announces a mixed match against the President Amin of Uganda. The match does not take place, however, because of the collapse of the Amin Dynasty.
08/26"All Star" card by New Japan, All Japan, and IWE. In the main event, Inoki teams with Baba for the first time in eight years to defeat the team of Singh & Abdullah the Butcher. After the match, Inoki challenges Baba in a singles bout, but the match never takes place.
11/30Becomes the first Japanese to win WWF Heavyweight Title, defeating Bob Backlund at Tokushima City Gym.

1980
02/27Draws with Willie Williams of Kyokushin Karate. This is the last match of the mixed match seiries.
04/13Defeats Tiger Jeet Singh in Mexico City to win UWA World Heavyweight Title.
12/13Announces the International Wrestling Grand Prix Plan.
