 例:water →[warer wader] get up →[gerup gedup ]

 例:kind of →[kinrof]

 例:in there →[innere]

   Would you の d y が影響しあって dy の音になる。
   as you の s y が影響しあって zy の音になる。

  例えば、a lot of の場合

a lot of [<a l>ot <of] 原形
a lot- of [<a l>ot<of] 連音(リエゾン)
a- lot- o(f) [<al>ot<o] 連音 連音 脱落

A.音節

li-mit me-thod ha-bit ho-nest wo-man ではなく
lim-it meth-od hab-it hon-est wom-an の音節に分ける。

do ^not → ^don't

例えば、^good ^old ^dog → |^good old |^dog

John F. Kennedy " Ask What You Can Do for Your Country " (1961)

<原文>

And so, my fellow Americans: Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.

My fellow citizens of the world: Ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of thw world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure rewarrd, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own.

Martin Luther King " I Have a Dream " (1963)

<原文>

I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "Wehold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal"

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heart of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Excuse me, sir. could you help me a second?

MAN:
Yeah, Sure. No problem. What can I help you with?

WOMAN:
I'm trying to get to the Plaz and I don't know where I am or how to get there.

MAN:
Okay. Well, right now, we're on 42nd and Broadway. Um, since you're walking, I would probably walk over two blocks towards 5th Avenue and make a left. And walk approximately 17 blocks or so. You'll see the hotel on your left-hand side

WOMAN:
Do you know about haow long that's gonna take?

MAN:
About 20 to 30 minuites.

WOMAN:
Wel, you know I'm kind of a hurry. Um, is there a subway line I could catch to get there a little faster?

MAN:
Sure. You can take the N&R uptown and get off the third stop. That should leave you off at about 5th Avenue. You'll see tha hotel right in front o you.

WOMAN:
You know, do you think if I took a cab, I could get there faster?

MAN:
You could. But in today's taraffic, I wouldn't.

WOMAN:
All right. Thanks for your help.

MAN:
No problem.

" Quick Action Sought on Plan to Rescue Banks From Bad Debts " <原文>

This is IN THE NEWS in VOA Special English.

In recent weeks, the United States government has dealt with struggling financial companies on a case-by-case basis. Now government and congressional leaders are discussing a plan, and they say there is no time to lose.

The idea is to have the government buy troubled housing loans from banks and other financial companies. These bad debts resulted from what Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson calls "irresponsible lending and irresponsible borrowing."

The loans were then sold as securities. Investors bought them for their high returns. But now their loss of value may call into question the financial condition of the companies that own them.

As a result, these bad loans have blocked the flow of credit that the economy depends on.

Removing them from the financial system will require a lot of money. How much? Secretary Paulson was asked that question at a news conference on Friday.

REPORTER: "You said this needs to be a significant size. Are we talking hundreds of billions, a trillion dollars?"

HENRY PAULSON: "We're talking hundreds of billions. This needs to be big enough to make a real difference and get at the heart of the problem."

Details of the rescue plan are still being worked out, but the administration wants Congress to act on legislation next week. Congress is supposed to leave after that to campaign for the November fourth elections, but lawmakers could delay their plans.

President George Bush called on Congress not to add provisions that could delay a bill. He says the proposed action does involve risk to taxpayer money, but he expects the money will be paid back. He says most of the assets that the government is planning to buy have good value over time, because most homeowners continue to pay their mortgages.

And he says the economic risks of not acting would be far higher.

Earlier this week, the government gave a rescue loan to the huge insurance company A.I.G. in return for a controlling interest. That came after the government took control of the housing finance companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac last week. And six months ago it provided loans for the bailout of the investment bank Bear Stearns. All these steps, and more, are connected to the bad loans.

President Bush said the American system of free enterprise rests on the idea "that the federal government should interfere in the marketplace only when necessary." He says today's shaky financial markets demand government intervention.

Recent measures have been historic. But there have been other government interventions in private business over the years.

For example, Congress provided billions of dollars to help airlines after the terrorist attacks seven years ago.

And in nineteen eighty-nine, when President Bush's father was president, Congress established the Resolution Trust Corporation. The agency had to deal with hundreds of failed savings and loan banks. Dealing with that crisis cost taxpayers about one hundred twenty-five billion dollars.
