Warning: this is the 1998 version of the project, kept online as an Internet archive.
It still works, provided you have Java and JavaScript enabled.
It might be difficult for you to assess your level of French if you already have some knowledge of the
language such as having studied it in school or having been exposed to it through television or
radio.
Have a try at our assessment tests...
As you progress through the tests, your score will be recorded and presented as a percentage of
correct answers. After responding to a certain number of questions, you will be given the
opportunity to either proceed to a harder or easier level based on your scores.
At any time, you can ask for an assessment of your progress.
Finally, if you take the time to answer a sufficient number of tests,
you will be given your total score, your level based on Common European Framework put together by the Council of Europe. Please note that
this is not a proficiency test in the strict sense of the term since we cannot assess your speaking abilities in real life.
These tests only cover "beginning French", that is the "Survival and Threshold" levels of the Common European Framework, or
the first two volumes of the most common textbooks of French as a foreign language published in France.
The reliability of the tests has not been established. They should be considered as "informal Tests".
