Scale : 1/24
Manufacturer: Revell Germany
Category: Box Stock
Unlike Tamiya, Revell Germany released two F50 kits, berlinetta and barchetta.   Hasegawa reboxed and started selling them in Japan in June, which was way before Tamiya and Revell USA released their kits.  I was in the states at that time, so I special ordered from a local hobby store in Tokyo, and I got the kit before everyone else, so that I could make the kit in time for a local hobby contest.
ml32002.jpg (44504 bytes)The layout of the engine components suggests that the kit represents the prototype, but the exterior should be the same as the production model.  Assembly of today's Revell Germany kit is easy, and the F50 kit is not an exception.   I spent about three months to complete the kit.
rmboxster3.jpg (32352 bytes)The assembly procedures are the same as usual, and I used yellow for the base paint to brighten the body color.  The paint I used was Gunze Sangyo's water base acrylics, then I sprayed Gunze's Mr. Color "super clear" for the finishing coat.  Caution has to be taken, when using the lacquer base paint on the water base paint, because the lacquer base paint dissolves the water base paint easily.  The trick is to spray the first few coats of lacquer paint very lightly and let the paint dry quickly, before it starts attacking the body color.
The mesh at the end of the rear cowl is represented by a clear part, and I thought it was a good compromise.  I sprayed Tamiya's "smoke" to darken it, while maintaining the see-through effect.  I would have replaced it with a mesh sheet, if the kit was intended to be a factory stock, which allows some modification.
