Heavy boat causes fatigue for single hand sailor. Therefore, maximum weight of 2.8 ton was taken as criteria.

It is commonly acknowledged that sailing speed is the most important characteristic for the pleasure of sailing. For this purpose, criteria of (LOA+LWL)/2/Displacement1/3 >6 and Sail Area/Displacement2/3>20 was taken.

Engine power is another important factor for safety in coastal cruising. For this purpose, criteria of Power/Displacement2/3>56was taken.

To avoid frequent sail change and subsequent fatigue, ballast/ displacement ratio<30% is minimum.

Following table summarizes boats which meet above criteria. Performance are combination of above criteria.

As a reference, Swing 31 and Oceanis 32 were also shown.

Performance is calculated by following equation.

Performance=3 x (LOA+LWL)/2/Displacement1/3 + (Sail Area/Displacement2/3 + Power/Displacement2/3 + 0.1 x % of Ballast/Displacement + Accommodation Rating

Cost Performance is calculated by following equation. Comparison were made on marina fee of 30,000 yen/feet case(Sagami Bay) and of 10,000 yen/feet case(Suruga Bay).

Cost Performance=1,000,000*Performance/(Boat price + Present value of 10 years marina fee, entrance fee and deposit which are discounted by 4% interest rate)

Oceanis Clipper 281, Espri du vent B, ETAP24i have shown high performance.

Due to low Euro exchange rate, Bergian made ETAP21i and  ETAP24i have highest cost performance. Espri du vent B follows. Difference of unit price of marina fee does not change the order of cost performance.
