Arren He is Enlad's prince, and it is a hero of this story. He has the dark in the mind, and, he is run after by "Shadow". He was doing an affluent living with splendid father (King) and mother (Queen). However, he was not able to endure an affluent living. And, he escapes from his country stabbing Titiou to death. He meets Ged of "Great Lord Archmage" to "Shadow of the mystery" during travel while being chased, and two people travel both together. Therru She is a heroine of this story. She received the cruelty from parents when she was young. The mark of the burn that remained in her face was able to be done by her father's cruelty. The enumeration phrase and she were deserted by parents, and she lives with Therru now. She extremely avoids communications with others. Among, she intensely disliked Arren. Because he doesn't esteem his own life. She intensely dislikes the person who doesn't value the life. However, she comes to talk gradually with Arren. Ged (Haitaka) Ged is a great wizard. He was an arrogant shepherd before. However, he becomes a wise adult now, and obtain the title "Great Lord Archmage". One day, he perceived the balance of the world collapsing, and, he began the travel to ascertain the cause. He meets Arren and travels two people together. Ged is usually called "Haitaka". It is his alias, "Ged" is his "True name". Few people know his "True name". Cob (Kumo) He is a wizard, too. The eternal life is possessed on him. He had been called "Cob of Habnar" before.He extremely fears the death. Therefore, he is losing sight of the meaning of living. To gain immortality, he conjures. However, the magic destroys the balance of the world. So Ged starts obstructing the plan of the Cob. He is a typical villain. Such a typical bad man like him is very unusual in the film by Studio Ghibli. Usagi He is a subordinate of Cob. It serves as the leader who brings the follower party together, and he is behaving impudently by the authority of Cob. However, he cannot act against the Cob, and says that his original character is a blushing violet. His occupation is person hunting, abducts man, and selling it as a slave. His wording is extremely ribaldry. His character will not be loved from the fan. Tenar She is an old acquaintance of Ged. Tenar served in the childhood as a shrine maiden by "Tombs of Atuan", and was spending the life completely isolated to the people. Ged who became an independent wizard sneaks into "Tombs of Atuan" for the fragment of "Bracelet of Eres Acbe". Then, Ged and Tenar meet. And, when Ged recaptures the fragment of "Bracelet of Eres Acbe", he rescued Tenar together. She was married to another man. However, she is a widow the husband's preceding now. She manages the farm in the garden of her house, and lives with Therru now. Hajia(drug) peddler He is a merchant who is selling hajia in the Hort Town. Hajiais a kind of the drug, it is said gnawing at the mind and body gradually, and the death before long with habitually. Many patients of the hajia poisoning are hanging around when entering the back alley by one step. He tries to sell Arren hajia, but, his plan has been obstructed by Ged. Female dealer She is a merchant who is selling clothes by the Hort Town. However, commodities of her shop are all imitations. She tries to sell Ged "Good quality clothes". However, Ged sees through the imitation it. She was a fortune teller before. She is cross examined by Ged, "Why was the fortune teller resigned?" She said losing her temper that, "Certainly, it's a fake, but it is an article that exists certainly. I believe the article, not believe disembodied magic any longer. "She has lost her ability for the collapse of the balance of the world. Queen She is Enlad's king wife, and a queen, is Arren's mother, too.　It is said that her discipline to Arren was extremely severe. However, she did not notice Arren's mind and body weaken. She only performed to only one scene in the film. King He is Enlad's king, and Arren's father. He is famous as the king who is great and is honored. He makes the people give priority more than his desires. He is always wishing the national well-being. When some abnormalities occurred in his country, he thought about measures aggressively. However, he has been stung by Arren who loses the mind and body, and, he perished.

Synopsis

One ship was navigating the nasty sea. The captain ordered the weatherworker to quieten the sea. However, no matter how he held out, he was not able to recall a true name of the sea and the wind. Suddenly, two dragons appeared from dark rift in the clouds. It was not to have thought that the dragon that lived in outskirts in the west appeared in the Tokai region where man lived, and they eat each other each other. The balance of the world has been collapsing.

Ged was traveling for the root of the misfortune in the world. Ged in the boyhood was a hasty, arrogant shepherd. He became a now mature adult, and was called the greatest wizard ,that is, "Great Lord Archmage". Ged meets Arren who is Enlad's prince. He was run after by "Shadow of the mystery". The collapse of the balance of the world drove Arren's mind and body mad. Arren was running about trying to escape because of own shadow. He was not able to oppose the dark that existed in own mind. Such Arren was just like Ged on a young day.

They kept traveling while passing over the valley, the mountain, and a lot of ruins. A lot of croplands were abandoned. Perhaps, farmer was abandoning arable land for the collapse of the balance of the world. And, they trace to the Hort Town and attach. The town prospered by a lot of people. However, workmen had forgotten their techniques, merchants was always selling the imitation, moreover, the slave's dealings were rampant there. There were many addicts of Hajia, a kind of the drug, in the back street. They were losing sight of the target though it moved about without the eagle of the people winning fame. People's eyes were fixed on dreams or on death, another world somewhere else.

They visited the house of familiar Tenar in Ged's old times at on the way to of travel. Tenar was a large shrine maiden of dark "Tombs of Atuan" at girlhood. When Ged regained the bracelet of a broken Erreth-Akbe from the Tomb, she was rescued to the world of freedom and light by Ged. In Tenar's house, the girl named Therru who had the mark of the burn in the face was cohabiting. Therru avoided Arren who was holding the dark in the mind. Arren helped the field labor. And, Arren learnt "The creation of the world has been approved by balance" from Ged. Therru gradually opened the mind in Arren. However, Arren was frightened because of its shadow the other day.

Finally, Ged discovered the cause to which the balance of the world had collapsed. The cause is that the wizard who was called a Cob was opening the door between Usha and dead' worlds. He had been called "Cob of Habnar" before. Cob has fought against Ged before. Because the Cob did the usage of wrong magic. Cob was defeated at Ged. He left for the direction in the west swearing reforming. However, Cob had been sworn to revenge Ged in the future.

Arren felt that he was not able to control own shadow. And, he left Tenar's house. He fainted frighteningly because of the shadow. And, he was collected by Cob, and carried to the Cob's castle. Cob had the plan to open the door between Usha and dead' worlds. The purpose of it is to obtain the life where it lived through all eternity. Ged knew that the balance of the world collapsed when the door was opened. Therefore, Ged will start obstructing the plan of the Cob. Cob scheduled a plan to manipulate Arren and to murder Ged. In the Cob's castle,Arren had reached the peak fear. Arren was given Hajia from Cob, he lost his sense, and he has leaked his "True name". As for the Cob, it knew Arren's "True name". so he came to be able to manipulate Arren.

Manipulated Arren has been made to duel to Ged. Ged has been captured though evaded Arren's attack.
