Most termites are distributed over the Torrid Zone and the subtropical zone in the world. Although it is the insect which is close, since there is character to dislike light, it is hard to be conspicuous. Therefore, it may be surprised by group flight of an unexpected feather ant. The feather ant which comes out so that it may begin to spring from the hole where a pillar is small flaps long feather gently, and soars one after another at it. This is the group flight (marriage flight) of a termite. If the pillar with which the feather ant appeared is the nest of a termite and is broken for a while, a countless work ant and a countless soldier ant will be found in it of the pillar / which is damaged and is tattering.
The individual which becomes reproduction class, i.e., a queen, and a king jumps out. While flying, feather will go out from the separation line near the base. The female which got down on the ground takes out a pheromone, pulls and brings near a male, is hidden with two animals in the wood etc. which became wet, and makes the room. Then, copulation and eggs production are performed and a new colony starts. An abdomen gets fat and it becomes impossible for the queen whom the ovary developed to move from a spot place whole life. A queen's abdomen becomes large and there is a kind which reaches the length of 10cm as a high termite.
Although a termite mainly eats vegetable matter, since the cellulose which is the main ingredients of wood personally cannot be decomposed, what the protozoan which lives together in back intestines decomposed is absorbed. The termite of Africa or Australia makes a huge ant mound with a dryness background like a lower stamp.
Although the queen of a termite is always living together with a king in a nest, it is only a queen and there is no king in the society of the bee or the ant of a Hymenoptera. This is because the queen of a termite does not have the ability although a social bee and the queen of an ant store the sperm obtained by one copulation in the inside of the body and a lifetime is passed.
