HEXANCHIFORMES

Tanzania 1993
Bluntnose Sixgill Shark
Hexanchus griseus
(Hexanchidae)

Because there is only one dorsal fin, the family of Hexanchidae can be distinguished from other sharks easily. A dorsal fin does not have the splinter, and there is an anal fin. It lives in the bottom of the deep sea.
The body is flat in the back stomach direction, and, as for Frilled Shark, there is the mouth on the tip of the head, and, as for tooth, a thing consisting of 3 splinters is a characteristic. Frilled Shark is known from the many parts of the world, but the fossil is discovered from the stratum after the latter period in the Cretaceous, too. It inhabits deep area to around 1,000m generally, but appear in the outer layer neighborhood.
