The profile and works of Shun-ichi Yukimuro are briefly collected.

1. Biography

Shun-ichi Yukimuro was born in Yokohama-city, Japan on 11 Jan. 1941. He learned scenario writing in 'Scenario school'. A TV drama work 'Chikagorono wakai yatsu' won a scenario prize, and he made his debut on the movie with 'Aitsu tono bouken' in 1965. Then he turned to the TV animation world, and has written more than 3000 of animation scenario.

2. Works

All works are listed on this page. Some works that he involved are listed below. The title with asterisk is a nominal translation by me (T. I.). Note that he did not write all stories in these series. Usually, the senarios of the TV animation series are distributed to several writers.

Almost all titles in the list have original comics. The characters and main stories are usually based on its original work. However, The TV series requires more stories than the comics version. And even if the story is mainly taken from the original work, it must be thickened with many additional episodes. Thus the TV series animation is different from the original work (sometimes completely) and can be thought as the work of animation producers. Usually, the scenario writer plays most important role for creating each 30min program.

Jungle Taitei (1965)(Kimba the White Lion / Jungle Emperor)

This is the first color animation in Japan directed by O. Tezuka. At the same time, this is the S. Yukimuro's first work in the animation field. He wrote few scenarios as a second author.
Story: A white lion who can understand human language acts for the peace of the jungle. He communinate with mankind, but often must struggle against hunters.

Mahou tshukai Sally (1966-68)(Sally the Witch)

This series was very popular with Japanese children, both with girls and boys. S. Yukimuro wrote about 1/4 of 1st series (total 109 story).
Story: Sally is the princess of the magical world. She went down to the human world with her brother Kabu to learn it. But it's secret that she is a witch.

Gegege no Kitarou (1968, 1971)(Monster Kitarou *)

This series is popular as fearful tale based on Japanese legend. S. Yukimuro works for 1st and 2nd series of this title, that continues up to 4th series now.
Story: Kitaro is a monster, but he works for human being and fight against evil monsters.

Himitsu no Akko chan (1969-70)(The Magic Mirror)

This series is the origin of Japanese magical girl animation, as well as 'Mahoutsukai Sally'.
Story: Akko received a magic mirror from the god of mirror. This mirror has the force to change her figure. She solves many problems with her magics.

Sazae san (1969?-now) (Mrs Sazae *)

This is a very long-run TV series. There is no Japanese who does not know Sazae san. Now the number of story is about 5000! (3 stories in 30 minutes every week.) S. Yukimuro provides more than 1000 scenarios to this program and continues to do even now. Sazae san is the most popular animation in Japan even now. Watching rate is about 20% constantly. But it is not so popular in Japanese anime-fan.
Story: Mrs Sazae is a young wife in Isono family. This is the comedy around Mrs Sazae and 7 Isono family members.

Tensai Bakabon (1971-72)(Genius Bakabon *)

Gag story acted by completely fool father and his son Bakabon. 'Baka' means fool. Many non-sense gags from this work were spread in Japan.
Story: A fool father and a normal pretty mother have two sons. First son Bakabon is fool like his father, but the socond son Hajime is a genius though he is an infant.

Hoshi no ko Chobin (1974)(Chobin, the star child *)

Tongari boushi no Memole (1984-85)(Little Memole)

This animation becomes a beautiful work due to the combination of the S. Yukimuro's story and the artistic animation drawing. S. Yukimuro directed the story structure and wrote about half of all scenarios.
Story: Liruru star people settled on the earth because of the starcraft fault. Their tall is only 10cm and they fear cat very much. They lived in a small island in a woods, isolated from human. But little child Memole found a human house near the island, where a young girl Mariel lived to cure a serious illness. The secret communication between Memole and Mariel began...

Kiteretsu daihyakka (1988-96)(Kiteretsu's encycropedia *)

S. Yukimuro wrote about 80% of the big series, total 331 stories.
Story: Kiteretsu makes funny instruments referring to the his ancestor's invention-encycropedia. Comedy with his classmates, and family.

Azukichan (1995-98)(Azuki)

Of course, I believe this is one of the best S. Yukimuro's works, and one of the best Japanese animation works in 20 century. He wrote all 117 scenarios of this work, except for No. 11 story. Now this Azukichan is not supported widely. No magics, no robots, no space travels, and no war appear in these stories. But it completely different from trivial pretty-girl animations. We have to wait 21 century to give it true evaluation.
