It all started, when I read a message on a Japanese modeling news
group. A bicycle enthusiast was looking for someone, who could make a model of a bicycle
he owns, the Moulton Pylon. Several people replied, saying that a few
plastic models were produced (Fujimi, Otaki), but not the Moulton, and it would be expensive, if
it had to be a one-off scratchbuilt model.
After some research, I was more and more interested in this bicycle, but that wasn't the only reason why I sent him a private mail. I had never made a model of a bicycle, and I thought it was a good challenge for me. I also thought I would be able to learn different techniques, that I don't use in car modeling. So, I introduced myself and told him about my modeling experiences.
I visited him to take
measurements and photograph of the bicycle. My first impression about the
Moulton Pylon was, "Wow, it's something.." The design was very
simple and functional, and it had a strong presence. The frame was beautifully
handcrafted, using aerospace stainless steel, and it showed the British craftsmanship,
which reminded me of early Jaguar cars.

I knew I was able to pull off, but the process was more time consuming than I expected.
The project took almost a year, because I had a full-time job. I was only
able to work in weekends, and not all weekends could be spent for modeling.
The hardest part was the chains, which had to be made piece by piece, and the brake assembly,
which had complicated 3D surface.
Anyway, the model was finished, and my client was quite impressed with my work, and he was very happy to have a replica of his own bicycle.
I uploaded step by step process of how I made this bicycle with many pictures to help you understand the procedure.
