I
think the New Beetle is a wonderfully designed car, combining the design
elements of the classic bug and modern arrangements. The real car
seems very popular, since we see them on the street so often. So,
it wasn't a surprise when Tamiya announced the development of the
kit. Revell/Monogram's own New Beetle kit will be available
shortly. |
A curbside model like this one is not only a good starter for the
beginners, but also a kit for the experienced modelers to check their
basic skills.
The kit was assembled straight out of the box, except a daisy, which
was scratchbuilt as shown in this picture.
|
Tamiya spray can was used to paint the base color, and Gunze's clear
coat was sprayed to protect the base color and enhance the glossiness of
the base paint. This metallic blue paint is originally for the
Subaru Impressa kit, but this can be used for the cars like Mercedes SLK
and Skyline GT-R. I like this blue so much.
Tamiya Finishing Papers and Detail Master's polishing clothes were
used to finish the body work. Finally, Tamiya Modeling Wax was
applied on the clear coat to protect the surface.
|
The other parts were painted with various Tamiya and Gunze's water base
acrylic paints. Some of them were airbrushed, and small parts were
painted with a brush. Although the wheels looked a little too
shiny, I left them unpainted. The VW mark
After decals were applied, the kit turned out pretty good, and it was
worth taking time.
