The Rescript on Education

I believe our Holy-and-Sacred Ancestors have created our nation founded on the basis of broadness and immortality, and have deeply and firmly establish ed our basis of virtue.
My Respective People have been successfully and gloriously lived in the universe for generations, united people's mind in loyalty and filial piety.
This is the essence of our national fundamentals, and herein also lies the source of national education.

You Respective People, I am sure that children should be filial to your parents; brothers and sisters be helpful to each other; bear yourselves in modesty and moderation; extend your benevolence to all; pursue learning and cultivate arts; and thereby develop intellectual faculties and perfect morality; further more, advance public good and promote common interests; always respective to the Constitution and follow the laws; offer yourself courageously to the Nation in case of emergencies; and thus guard the nation and maintain peace for the holiest fortune in the universe.
These subjects, not only for an essential factor to be the people of our nation, but are the best ones to make your forefather's traditions.

The way here set forth is indeed the teaching bequeathed by our Holy-and-Sacred Ancestors, to be observed alike by their Descendants, and these doctrines are infallible through all ages and true in all places in the world.
I will make every effort to master and practice these ancestors's teachings with all people in this country, sharing the same virtue.
I really hope all Japanese people be admired and respected in the world.
