Japanese yaoi or bisyounen-ai comics have the long history.
Representative classic syounen-ai comic named "Kaze to
Ki no UtaiThe Poem of wind and treej" was published in 1975.
this is described two boys studing in a boarding school,a passionate story.
This comic and movie named "Another country" are alike.
When "Kaze to ki no uta" was published,
It caused much duscussion.
And famous syounen=ai Magagine "JUNE" was launched in 1978.
It was more radical substance and caused a great sensation.
The etymology of June comics is from this magagine.
Origin of yaoi
Yaoi is the following abbreviation.
"Yamanasi"'s "ya" It means that without climax.
(We called "climax" "yama = mountain")
"Ochinasi"'s "o" It means that without "good ending"
"Iminasi"'s "I" It means that without story.
And then yaoi writers sneeringly named only sex comics which is
empty story "Yaoi" by themselves.
In short, "yaoi" means only gay sex comic without storyilike a
pornographyj, but recently, We defines as gay comics which sex
scene is contained. Comic without sex scene isn't called yaoi.
Now my favourite yaoi writer is Kazuma Kodaka.
Her "Kizuna" series is so much popular among yaoi fan.
Japanese isn't tied to Christian morality sense or taboo,
Japanese people don't care about statesman's religion so much.
Almost Japanese people are Buddhist, but they usually forget about this.
In Japan, religion is culture rather than faith.
Once upon a time in Japan, in temple or "Samurai" society, a priest or
"Samurai" had custom loving young boy. This is called "Syudo".
So we, Japanese are tolerant to homosexual.
But even Japan which is publishing a lot of yaoi comics,
Yaoi or june fan is minority,We can't openly speak our minds reading yaoi.
