You are dearly missed, the late tuesday nights in N,Y, the Sunday pasta dinners with the "serious" bottles of wine and all the long talks the serious and the funny ones. It's hard to believe that 5 years have gone by already

5.michael canyon : Like Passalauqa, we can all share what we know with another, the best humanity of all. Thanks Joe.
6.Dave Gould
7.Vernon : I met Joe once and saw him play a couple of times. I understand that he had a relationship with Jesus as his saviour. If this is true, he is in a good place now. I still enjoy listening to his records and cd's..what a player. My thoughts are with Ellen and the rest of Joe's family at this time.
8.Ulf Wakenius : Dear Joe,You were the greatest side by side with Wes.I'm proud and hounored to walk in your footsteps with Oscar Peterson.Rest in peace, Ulf Wakenius.
9.Colin Bailey : Tabo, I love your Joe Website, it's a great tribute to him.I played with Joe for many yrears, and am very proud to have been on some great records with him. It took me a long time to get over Joe's passing, but I will always have the many great memories to look back on.

11.D.D. Tyler
12.Jim Hughart : All of us who knew and loved Joe are grateful especially to Ellen, who gave Joe the happiness that eluded him for such a long time. We are also very grateful to Tabo for creating this beautiful memorial to Joe.
On May 23,1994, we lost Joe at about 5 A.M..About 8 hours later, my second granddaughter was born. Her name is Breanne. Some people believe that, when someone's body dies, that person's soul transfers to a "new" body and remains on earth. I am watching Breanne closely. I don't see any similarity yet, but who knows......? At least, Breanne's birth gave me much happiness on an otherwise sad day.
13.John King
14.Dennis Hergert : I have been listening to Joe Pass' music for about 8 years now. He is a genius! I was so sad when he passed away. His last album "Song for Ellen" is wonderful and must make his wife very happy. thank for making it possible to express our appreciation for some terrific music. I wish I could have met and talked to him. Thanks!
Dennis
15.Ellen: Joe, my only real love! This May I don't visit your grave in the old-fashioned way. I'm up to date!!! Tabo had that great idea with the Joe Pass web site. It's exciting. Barbara and I went into an Internet Café which has just opened in Osterstrasse and there we find ourselves surfing and getting into touch with you in a new manner · a sort of adventure. You know, what I mean !.
Joe, you are always in my heart. We are one now. Deine Dich liebende Frau Ellen.
16.Timo Paakko: Thanks Joe!!!!
17.Chad Gage: I remember meeting him in 1978-79 when he was at the Lighthouse in Redondo Beach, CA. A group of friends and I from the USC Classical Guitar department went to hear him. As usual, it was wonderful. I had a chance to meet him during the intermission, and I am thrilled that I was able to. He was a brilliant virtuoso, and I am depressed that he is not getting much air time on the radio stations in L.A..

Thanks for creating this page !
18.Akio Kamiyama

28.Gregory Simon : Hi Tabo, This is a respectful memorial you've put together here for Joe. He is my favorite guitarist, and his playing has inspired me to keep playing my guitar, even after 25 years. Thank you for the anthology as well; I hope to collect all of his major work (music, books, and videos)...sadly, some of it is now hard to find. Thanks again for this site!
Sincerely,
Gregory Simon

29.Héctor Gutiérrez: Wonderful site! I was touched by the humble way it was designed. Needless to say I am a Joe Pass fan and thrilled with the paraphernalia. Thanks for the memories!

30.danny segall: joe once gave me a 2 hour private lesson for free. ill never forget the man.
31.charles gigliotti: Joe Pass was my first cousin. His mother Anna Passalaqua and Frank Gigliotti, my father are brother and sister. My mother is buried in that cemetery. I'll send you some more info that you do not have in this site. His father's name was Mariano Passalaqua.
32.robert carneal: I was never lucky enough to even see Joe play. Fortunately, there are many recordings that record such phenominal talent. When I read the "Just Jazz Guitar" issue dedicated to him I thought, "that is exactly how I imagined him." It occurred to me that this shows that he not only played with unequalled virtuosity, but from his soul;I knew him from his music.
33.Michael Obertone: The first time I heard a Joe Pass solo, I was in shock. As a child visiting my grandparents house, my granfather would play his jazz guitar late into the night, and I would fall into a deep sleep while lestening to each note. I would never hear that kind of sound again, until I heard a joe pass solo. I was immediatly brought back to my youth, safe and warm. I miss my grandfather and all otheres like him. REP.
34.Matt Gunther: WOW......
A truly great and beautiful site to one of the masters. Joe will be sourly missed among those that were fortunate enough to be exposed to his great talents.
I did not know that he is buried in Piscataway!! I will definately make a trip to the cemetery to pay my respects, as I live in Central Jersey. Thanks again.

Matt Gunther

46.Jorge L. Pineda: Charly Christian, Danjo, Wes, Joe Pass are the greatest jazz guitar players that have evered played.
47.Steve Howell: The passing of Joe Pass represents the loss of one of my two or three greatest musical and artistic influences. Being a long time fan of Joe's, I feel special kind of reverence when viewing a photograph of his headstone. I am sure that he is missed by many, many people whose lives he has touched in a profound way. I know he touched deeply into my soul with his lyrical, melodic, sensitive and always incredibly musical way. Although I only shook Joe's hand once, I found him to be was gracious, humble and a true gentleman. I sincerely appreciated the time he took to talk with me in a very attentive, interested way. He made a big difference in my life.
48.Yoshihiro Ochiai
49.Gary Jensen: Thanks Joe for leaving us such beautiful music.
50.Franco (Italy): I knew you only one year ago.

52.Alan Donaldson: I loved his music.
53.Nolan McSweeney
54.Patrick Dorn: Attended one of Joe's workshops at the Great America Music Hall in San Francisco in the mid 70's. Always one of my favorite guitarists. I loved his approach to playing. Made is appear simpler than it really is... Funny man too!
55.Stephan Meidell: You are a great inspiration Joe...
56.Cesar Vega-Lassalle: Long Live Pass...
57.Jerry Tiberi: What can I say? All men and women great and small are born and one day die. Hoepfully most will have left this place a little bit better than when they came. Speaking for myself, Joe Pass, more than a little, left those who heard his music, a lot more inspired. Joe set a standard that can't really be matched, but for those of us musicians who try, we no doubt will be better for it. I had the pleasure of seeing Joe play in Chicago many times, and even told him once to never stop playing. He responded "I've only just started!" A very sweet man, and a great inspiration for me as a guitarist, to keep striving for the best. And, when I can't think of what the best is, I think of Joe Pass.
58.Kaoru sugimoto: No one can play like you, Joe.
Thank you for this beautiful site.
59.Daryle Pooser:
Rest in peace, Joe. I know that you are up there jammin' with Bird, Duke, Lester and the rest of the cats. Your music has touched many Peace.
60.kensaku kawamura:
Dear JOE
I wish that you teach guitar to many children in heaven with lovely, gently face.
Good-bye, JOE.
61.Jim Caudill: What a great, humble tribute to a master. His gravestone is such a reminder that we're all here for a very short time-and in the next world for eternity. I'll never forget what an impact my first JP album, "Intercontinental", had on my life, and my playing. Such honest playing, in a business that is mostly smoke and mirrors. I feel the same sadness I felt when Lenny Breau and Wes died.
62.jerry kreten: joe, thank you
63.Ron Werkheiser:
Dear Joe: I miss you..
64.Jon Hildenstein: Thanks for the tunes, Joe

68.ALBERT MARTI & JOAN ELOY:
Posiblemente nunca tocaremos la guitarra como Joe, pero intentandolo, aunque destrozando su estilo tenemos una meta genial. Algun dia tocaremos juntos en el Paraiso.
69.Tansu Demirbilek: I'm 20 years old and from Turkey. I wish I had ran into your records a little bit earlier. I can imagine how brilliant person you might be. Thanks for what you left behind for us!
70.Mike McWilliams
71.Salvatore Perez: You are the best!
Bye.
72.Eduard Martens
73.Satoshi Ouchi
74.Han Verhaar (Netherlands): Thanks for all the fine music that you have left.
75.Alex Hearn: I wanted to get into Jazz, seeing as I am a guitarist who loves a variety of music and when I heard Joe playing 'Night and Day' it just opened up a whole new world of harmony and melody to me. I've been learning how to play 'On Green Dolphin Street' from tabulature and tried to get a feel for it in my own adapted version of it. I'll buy the virtuoso album later on and see how he plays it. I'll probably have a lot of difficulty to master the tune once I've heard him play it, but that shows just how a touch of genius he was, not just to guitar lovers but all people who can love great music.

Joe was fantastic and the legend will always live in his music.
76.CHRISTOS KASIOLAS: My respect to one of the greatest guitar players of all time, who open the road to solo jazz guitar. I became a better musician by growing up lisening to your music. Although I live in Greece, so far away from USA, I had the chance to meet you once in a concert here in Greece.
That was something unforgetable to me.
You allways will be in my and my wife's heart.
77.Kelly Webb: Thanks for the joy I've found listening to and learning from your playing.
78.Richard Griffiths: I love you Joe. You inspired untold numbers of guitarists. You're album "Intercontinental" is the definitive guitar trio recording.
79.Ben Randazzo: I had the pleasure of seeing you on a number of occassions back in the seventies. I actually spoke to you and your down to earth openess impressed me.
You are a giant who inspired and moved our instrument ahead. I celebrate and treasure the recordings you have left. Your humanity and artistry live on.

82.Kota Teratani:
Joe Pass. I love your smile and the way you talk in the instruction video. Oh! and, of course, I love your jokes, too, though I don't get them.
..Thank you very much Joe for showing me how great Jazz music played by a guitarist can possibly be. I hope someday I will be able to play, as you say, what I hear and what I feel.
Thank you. I will be your enthusiastic fan forever!
83.Victor Caamano; Joe,

96.Very nice. It would be good for more people to know about his music.
Note that in the "pictures" section he's playing a Fender Jazzmaster, not a Jaguar.
(That's right! I fixed it. Thanks for the information. Will you please give me your name ? / Tabo)
97.Bill Ruxton: Joe,
The closest I'll ever come to heaven on earth was the night I heard you at the King of France Tavern in Annapolis, MD. When I asked if you'd play Sophisticated Lady, you grinned and said: "Yeah, I like that one, too!" Your playing remains an inspiration to those you've left behind.
