Hi, I am from a small village in France and i have had a R 850 R 
for 1 year. 
Of course, it is not a 1100 but the behaviour of these 2 bikes 
is very similar. I don't know if the 850 one is imported in Japon 
but in France, one R of 4 sold is a 850. My R 850 R has 12000 km 
and has almost all the possible accessories (windscreen, ABS, 
heating hand grips, and so on). I am 47 and I used to ride japonese 
bikes: I do consider if motorcycles did not die and if so many 
people like riding a bike whatever the brand, it is only because 
japonese factories were able to re-invent motorcycles.
