EXPEDITION TO USA

I have been in USA from Oct. 17 to Oct. 25 '97.
The objective were:
  1. To go fishing
  2. To purchase lures made in USA.
However, I could not do neither. I had no time to get around countryside.
However, the trip was a great experience for me.

1. ASIA WORKSHOP at WEFTEC, McCormick Place, Chicago

There were many Koreans but few Japanese.
I was impressed that JAPAN BASHING was there.
"Japanese consultants rep's job are golf and karaoke with JICA people."
"OECF money is officially 'un-tied', but actually it is......"

On the other hand, US-AEP has a strong intention to expand the U. S. role in environmental equipment/services export in Asia/Pacific region.
However, I worry about the GOLDEN TRIANGLE of POLITICIAN-BUREAUCRAT-INDUSTRY.
Here in Japan, there are a strong triangle in domestic infrastructure market. This is very tough for new comers and expensive system for tax payers.
Of course we Japanese have been tired of this system and we want CHANGE.
There are BUREAU-BUREAU karaoke party (KAN-KAN SETTAI), and welcome positions for retired bureau officers (AMA-KUDARI).
I believe that this bad system shall not be exported to foreign countries.
This is not a car or electric equipment. The system grows by itself and never stops by itself.

Anyway, the workshop itself was very interesting and exciting.

2. EXPOSITION at WEFTEC

It was amazing. Very well organized and very efficient to search.

How nice it was! We have been communicating by e-mails and web since last year. Finally I met Mike.

3. CHICAGO

Special thanks to Glen!!!.
I enjoyed Chicago very much. Navy Pier, Lawry's The Prime Rib, Water Tower Place, Nike Town, etc.
Goods were expensive for me.(Now YEN is weak.)

But foods were excellent.
I appreciate all I met at WEFTEC.

After WEFTEC, I moved to Minnesota for another work.
If I have a chance to be in USA again in future , I would like to enjoy fishing.
