The hike up to Hakuundake starts off at Kogen Onsen.  (700Yen Open 10am to 5pm).  The climb starts off with a 30 minute hard steep climb, but then you're rewarded with an hour of easy walking through a "flower field," although when we climbed in October there were no flowers to be seen.  We did see a fox and a deer though.  After going through the field you have another hard climb up to the top of Midoridake.

About 20 minutes past Midori dake you have a choice.  You can turn left and go to Hakundake past a mountain hut ( with fairly decent toilet) or go straight on to Koizumidake.  At Koizumidake you can turn right and head towards Akadake, or left to Hakuundake.

Access: Look at the Google map on the main page.  You go past Sounkyo and take a right onto Route 273.  You go 3 km past the turnoff to Ginsendai and turn right at the sign for Kogen Onsen.  The onsen is 10km up a gravel road.

The onsen is below.
