· It's worth checking out the visitor center for information. (Located on the left just before you get to the ropeway)

Asahidake is Hokkaido's tallest mountain.  You can start at the bottom of the ropeway (1100m) to enjoy the full climb or take the ropeway up to 1600m.   The ropeway has an English page here.

It's about 2.5 hours from the bottom of the ropeway to the the top of the ropeway.  Then you have a 15 or 20 minute walk over a relatively flat area before another 2.5h ascent to the top of the mountain.

About 20 minutes down the backside of Asahidake is a designated camping area (shown in the picture.)  There are no facilities, although there is usually water from a stream coming directly off snowmelt from the backside of the mountain.

Access: To get to Asahidake from Asahikawa head out on Route 1160.  The road forks just before you get to Asahidake with the other road going to Tenninkyo.  Tenninkyo has a few onsens, short walks to waterfalls and longer hikes into the center of the Taisetsuzan range.
