Acrylics : learning the skills of abstract painting
When
we stand in front of a Jérôme Tisserand's panting we are aware
immediately of his great understanding of color whether bright,
diffused or subtle. Behind the generic titles that he gives to his
painting series (Architecture and landscapes, the Vault, Pleasure,
Intercession…) we perceive different themes. It is up to the viewer to
interpret these subjects and to understand their rhythm and meaning in
terms of his own perception.
How do we find a subject and get the desire to paint it? In this
workshop we will essentially start from concrete objects we find in
nature. Nature offers an infinite variety of shapes, colors and matters
in the mineral or vegetable kingdom like trees for example which were
often used by Kandinsky. We will explore shape, form and, with regard
to color, we will learn the essential principles necessary in order to
create a composition. We will learn how to develop a free gesture which
initiates the desire to paint. Each day we will examine the work that
has been done and have a discussion about ideas and possibilities.
A graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts of Toulouse, Jérôme Tisserand
taught art as professor in visual arts of the City of Paris and
occupied different positions. He was in charge of the department of
visual arts of the City of Paris, of the School of Graphic Arts of
Paris, of the School of Art of Châlon-sur-Saône. He was cultural
adviser of the City of Paris and, since 2001, Director of the Cultural
Affairs of the City of Évreux. He was several times guest of honor of
shows and had a great number of personal exhibitions in France and
abroad. Galleries : Henri Bénézit, Raymond Greuze and Pierre Cardin in
Paris, Suzanne Tarasiève in Barbizon, Simone Boudet in Toulouse,
Condillac in Bordeau. In 1996 the Bossuet museum in Meaux and the Old
Évêché in Évreux jointly organized a retrospective of his work. Salons
: Comparaisons, Grand et Jeunes d'Aujourd'hui, Mac 2000, FIAC, SAGA,
START (contemporary art fair of Strasbourg), Automne, Montrouge, Art
Paris, Beirut. Museums : Meaux, Évreux, Nantes. Murals : Air France,
Pierre Cardin, etc… Lithographies : Prize of the Région Ile-de-France.
