Circle Navigation Around Mt. Taisetsu

In July 2004, Mr. & Mrs. Greenwoods, visited Hokkaido for making circle navigational driving around Mt. Taisetsu, the highest Mountains in Hokkaido.

First Day

They flew from Haneda Air Port in the morning arrived Chitose Airport at the noon. They rented a compact car, Colt which is a controversial car made by Mitsubish Motors.. With the navigational guide, they visited Otaru and Alice firm.

They moved to Jyozankei Hotspring for a night stay.

Second Day

They passed through Sapporo and entered Furano and Biei area which are famous of their flower and country side.

When they have arrived at Mt. Asahidake Ropeway station, they have found that it is not operating because of mechanical failure. They stayed over night in Sounkyo Hotspring.

Third Day

Using another ropeway, they had reached 1,600m point. From there, they enjoyed impressive view of the Sounkyo Canyon, Mt. Teshio(1,558m), Mt. Kurodake (1,984m), Mt. Niseikashpe (1,883m)

Dense woodland in Mitsumata basin was the one they didn't expected. The basin was full of trees. Once those woods were cut and transported out the basin via rail. But now, it is fully recovered and preserved as Japanese forestry was dead and railway was dismantled as a results of international competition.

They have met a family of wild fox neat Lake Shikaribetsu.

They also visited Japan's largest Pasture called after Naitai River.

They stayed over night in Tokachigawa Hotspring.

Forth Day

They visited Spinner's Farm Tanaka. Mr. Tanaka started this firm after his retirement from a company employment. He is raising various kind of sheep. He does all processing from cutting, spinning and weaving. Instead of dyeing, he uses colored sheep like Cheviot and Suffolk. Mr. & Mrs. Greenwood purchased some knitted hat.
